Handbook: Energy-Efficient Construction in the People's Republic of China

This handbook provides an easy-to-understand explanation of the basic principles and contexts of energy efficiency in buildings. It is geared towards decision makers in the Chinese business and administration sectors (developers, investors, public servants, etc.).

The booming economy and the constantly increasing demand for fossil fuels resulting from this have made China the second largest energy consumer in the world, after the USA. According to World Bank estimates, 50 % of new buildings worldwide will be constructed in China in 2012 – this shows that an enormous savings potential in this area exists in China.

Using this as a basis, the handbook deals with questions of the economic viability of energy efficiency measures and also the legal and administrative requirements. The technical chapter describes the basic principles required in order to assess the measures needed and make investment decisions.

The handbook is geared towards decision makers in the Chinese business and administration sectors (developers, investors, public servants, etc.). It does not provide detailed technical knowledge, rather an easily-understandable explanation of the basic principles and contexts of energy efficiency.

Decision makers need brief, easily-understandable information that provides an overview of the topic and allows decisions to be made. The handbook therefore describes the basic advantages and the long-term utility of energy efficiency in the building sector.
